What the multipliers actually cost
Before the ball is released, one to five numbers are struck by lightning and assigned a multiplier between 50× and 500×. If the ball lands on a struck number and you had a straight-up bet on it, you are paid the multiplier instead of the standard price.
None of that is free. Straight-up bets on a Lightning table pay 29 to 1 rather than 35 to 1, and that reduction funds the multipliers. Outside bets are untouched — red/black still pays 1 to 1 and still carries the ordinary 2.70% edge.
The marketing emphasises the 500×; the distribution does not. One or two struck numbers is the common case, five is rare, and 50× is by far the most frequent multiplier. Across the whole distribution the straight-up edge lands at about 2.90% — slightly worse than European, in exchange for a far heavier tail. You are buying variance, and the price is roughly 0.2% of turnover.
The trap is the outside bet. Lightning tables are marketed on 500× wins, but only straight-up bets can be multiplied. Betting red on a Lightning table gets you the same 1 to 1 as anywhere else with none of the upside — and the tables often carry higher minimums.

Multiplier values and strike frequencies vary by operator and are rarely published in full. This demo strikes one to five numbers per spin — weighted toward one or two — and draws each multiplier from 50× to 500× weighted heavily toward 50×, giving a mean of about 2.2 struck numbers and a mean multiplier near 130×. Those two figures are what produce the 2.90% straight-up edge, and the control panel recomputes the edge from the distribution actually being sampled.
